About Pilates

Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. The Traditional Pilates Method uses equipment that is designed for movement of the entire body. The positions and movement of the exercises that Joseph H. Pilates created simulate everyday functional activity.  This in turn helps to correct body alignment and improve balance.

Pilates is centered on lengthening and stretching muscle groups with focus on balance and uniform development of the body. The genius of the Pilates method is in its versatility so it can be used to reach various fitness goals from improving athletic performance to recovering after an injury.

Benefits of the Pilates Method:

  • Develops every aspect of fitness: strength, flexibility, coordination, speed, agility and endurance.
  • Heightens body awareness
  • Improves balance
  • Focuses on breathing and its physical and psychological benefits
  • Promotes healthy posture and proper alignment
  • Learn to move so that you can enjoy life
